Connection with nature

The opening weekend on July 8 and 9 marks the kickoff of Summer Nights at ARTIS. From sunrise to sunset, ARTIS Park is alive with activities for all ages. Start the day with yoga in the Dutch Garden, listen to engaging speakers in the Insectarium, participate in a workshop on bokashi composting, and dance to the music of up-and-coming talent such as Guusje (July 8) and Sophia (July 9) on the Music Field. The day ends with an in-depth film program in collaboration with Cinetree at the ARTIS Planetarium.

During Summer Nights through Sept. 2, surrounded by the animals, trees and flowering flower beds, you will experience the unity of our planet during the golden evening hours. Every Saturday, from July 8 to September 2, future thinkers such as Babette Porcelijn, Li An Phoa, Jessica den Outer and Koen Arts will give inspiring sessions on how we can cooperate with our planet in a fruitful way.

First ARTIS Planetary Health Congress

Before the ARTIS Zoom evenings begin, ARTIS Director Rembrandt Sutorius will open the first-ever ARTIS Planetary Health Congress with Mayor Femke Halsema. This congress will explore the four main themes - Earth, Water, Food and People - and how they are interconnected. This event will bring experts from various disciplines together in ARTIS for optimal knowledge exchange.

On Friday evening, July 7, the ARTIS Planetarium welcomes British climate psychologist Caroline Hickman. She will provide insight into how children and young people experience the climate crisis and what this requires of us as parents, educators and teachers.

Collaborations

One of ARTIS' strengths is its ongoing collaboration with various partners to support new initiatives. Food Hub previously worked with ARTIS to create a food boulevard. We would highly recommend the Summer Nights!
